Videos

They say that a picture tells a thousand words. Well, a video can do even better. It is very difficult to get a good idea of a boat from a description, photos help but a video is the best thing next to actually sailing on the boat oneself. Accordingly, we have produced two 45 minute videos to help illustrate some of the advantages of sailing multihulls, and our boats in particular.

Youtube excerpts from these videos are scattered throughout this website. If you like what you see why not get the complete video package on VHS or CD?

=======================

The first video is "A Day Sail to Russia" which tells the story of our trip from Plymouth to the Soviet Union in 1989. Three of us sailed singlehanded in a convoy of three Strider Clubs. Because they are small boats we only day sailed and moored up each night. We visited 8 countries on our trip and sailed about 3000 miles in 100 days.

It has received good reviews in the press - Yachts and Yachting wrote "This is a highly entertaining film...it is an inspiration to all small boat sailors who fancy something different"

The second video is entitled "Multihull Sailors Have More Fun!" and offers a short introduction to the advantages of sailing a multihull, followed by a more detailed look at some of our designs. Boats shown include Quattro 16, Strider, Sagitta, Mira etc while topics covered include interior layouts, performance, keels versus daggerboards, hull shapes, beaching and anchoring etc etc. It is a must for all those who have yet to sail a multihull as well as those who want to know more about our designs.

Here is a short Youtube trailer. The speed boat's wake shows just how fast the trimaran is sailing

Currently the videos are only available in VHS, PAL format, and in VHS NTSC format. Therefore they cannot be viewed in the following countries: SECAM - France, Egypt, some Middle East etc unless a special video recorder is used The tapes are 60 minutes long, so when you buy one video you also get a trailer for the other on the same tape. (Note NTSC tape runs faster than PAL, so the trailer is shorter) Each video costs £18 incl VAT in the UK, add £3 postage in the EC, £18 or $29 incl postage outside the EC

SPECIAL OFFER, while stocks last. VHS Videos are now £13 each incl Postage

NOW AVAILABLE Both Videos on one CD for GBP10!!

Our two videos were made before the days of digital cameras. Thus the quality is not as good as on a modern DVD. However I'm sure you agree that it is the video content that is important rather than ultimate quality.
That is why, when we changed to using digital media, we transferred the videos onto CD rather than onto DVD. Both videos are now available on a single CD. This can be played on any computer with a CD/DVD drive by using Windows Media Player or similar player. It can also be played on many DVD/TV combinations. However we must point out that because of the lower quality it is best not to view the CD on a screen bigger than 19in. Having said that, the video quality is far superior to the YouTube videos below.

If you want the CD of both videos please say so in the Comments box, otherwise we will send a VHS tape

There are of course many more video clips on Youtube. However sometimes it's hard to find good ones to watch, so here are a few examples. (Of course you need broadband to view these clips)

I think this is a Gypsy sailing, but you'd never know if I didn't tell you!

I said in my Biography that years ago I used to race an International Moth. The Moth is a completely open design, so there have been a few changes over the years. Top recorded speed is now up to 23 knots, while the boats this Moth are overtaking are Olympic Lasers.

You don't need a powerboat to tow a water skier, the old Hobie adverts show a Hobie 18 doing just that, but this is a bit different.

You may think a 60ft boat is too big, so this is a clip of the Seacart 30 trimaran and is for those who think that you cannot fly a hull safely on a multihull. The punch line at the end is a good one!

This boat sailed round the world in 59 days and sailed across the Atlantic in 4 days, but would you want to sail on board?

Please email me a list of your own favourites and I'll add them. Incidentally, if you are uploading your own clips then I suggest you use these tags: Sailing, catamaran, Woods Designs, multihull, www.sailingcatamarans.com as that way we can all find them easily.
