engine in a hull

The drawings show an engine fitted in a hull just in front of the rudders. This is a good position when motoring. When sailing the engine is lifted and a blanking piece fitted in to stop water surging. It works well with small 2 stroke engines

aft, central engine

But many people these days use the 9.9hp 4 stroke high thrust Yamaha outboard. This is a much bigger engine than a 2 stroke but is very powerful and an ideal size for a Mira. It can be fitted in the aft part of the cockpit. Control lines led from the engine to the tillers mean that the engine will turn with the rudders, dramatically inproving manoueverability
