HULL
PLANKING Below knuckle - 30 sq m western red cedar, either rectangular
25x10 or profiled as shown 32x10. (Both finished sizes after
planing). Topsides- 28 sq m western red cedar OR 16 sheets 8/9 mm
plywood plus 70 m 2" x 1" timber Gunwales- 35 m 3" x 1"
Glass-
600 g Biaxial 60 kg or 90 kg (if topsides are cedar) 300 g Cloth
20kg Epoxy resin - 120 kg plus fillers for sheathing and high strength
joints
Polyurethane glue - 35kg for strip planking and general
glueing
4mm ply 4 sheets (use for shelves, light dividers
etc 6mm ply 20 sheets (8'x4', 2440x1220 min) 9mm ply 32
sheets 12mm ply 3 sheets
All plywood to be best quality
lightweight marine ply, eg Gaboon/Okume BS1088 or similar
1"x1" 50m
(or split 2"x1" - usually cheaper) 2"x1" 270m 3"x1" 60m 2"x2" 6
off 6m 2"x11/2" 8 off 6m
All timber to be best quality,
lightweight softwood unless noted, eg sitka spruce, yelow cedar, douglas
fir etc. All sizes are Planed All Round and are nominal. Eg 2"x1" has a
planed final size approx 45mmx20mm. This size is assumed on the
plans.
4kg of 1" and 3/4" gripfast nails. 3/4" no 6 screws for
6mm ply and 1" no 8 for 9m ply. Approx 500 of each.
Note: although
epoxy glue is stronger than wood most glue joints should be conventionally
fastened as well, partly to clamp wood while glue sets, partly to ensure
that joint is not just surface to surface which puts excess load on outer
ply veneers. |
