Gypsy Building 1

flat panel hull laid up

Hull panels are made on melanine faced chipboard or MDF, producing a smooth, gel coat finish. This Gypsy was started in a 5m x 5m (16' x 16') garage, so the hull panels were made in two pieces, each 14' long

Hull panels are now joined, bulkheads set up on a strong back and the panels lifted up into position. The keel panel is then fitted and the bulkhead/hull panel and keel joints made before turning over.

Hull now the right way up

Keels are not fitted until a late stage. This means the hull is nearer the ground, simplifying access and it is self supporting so no cradles are needed.
